What a Day!!

Wow, such a beautiful day! I actually broke out the shorts and t-shirt for the first time this year (not for me mind, the world is not ready for my legs in all their pasty glory) but the boy looked like the king of cool with his baseball cap and shorts. Man, I love gymboree!!
So as a reward for good behaviour in town today I got him a bottle of bubbles. Who would have thought that one bottle costing 2euro could cause such enjoyment for so many kids. I was like the Pied Piper both in the playground and back at home with all these kids following me, trying to catch the bubbles. There were hundreds of euro worth of toys scattered around and they were in hysterics after some water and soap.

Planet Boy

Random Fact: In a rare condition of boy babies, which is found in the Dominican Republic, testosterone does not take effect in the womb because of a missing enzyme. These boys are born without a penis or testicles, looking in fact more like girls and they are raised as such. But at about 12 years of age, testosterone is produced in their body and the boys suddenly develop into 'real' boys, growing a penis and testicles, getting a deep voice and so on. They apparently then live normal lives as men. They apparently then live normal lives as men. They are known in their language as 'penis at twelve children'

Wow, that brings up a few questions in the nature vs nurture debate.

Having spent a fair amount of time looking in wonder at my two year old son as he races around the house dressed in a swimming hat, half a PJ's, Thomas underpants and boots on the wrong feet I decided I needed some help. This decision was reinforced as the boy found great enjoyment in bashing himself as often as possible into doors, walls, whatever. So, a manual was definately called for. I tried the book shop and they unfortunately dont have a parenting book entitled ' How to raise a confident, caring man with a good work ethic, who takes equal responsibily over house and children and never takes his wife for granted' There was also nothing on 'How to ensure your teenage son doesnt hang out with the wrong crowd, become obsessed with super fast machines or spend his weekends drinking in a field'

I did see 'Raising Boys' by Steve Biddulph so thats what I bought. He really emphasises the importance of a strong father figure in the lives of growing boys. I think we may have trouble there!! The ex, while well intentioned is not shaping up to be the best role model, it is currently 12.05 and he said he would come over at 9 or 10am- no sign yet. At least the boy is still young enough that he can be distracted by a well timed Mickey Mouse Clubhouse when he asks for his daddy. But the day is coming that he will understand and be disappointed by no-shows. I am going to have to prepare for that by developing his relationships with other strong male figures. Luckily the boy idolises my dad and brother so that will be easy enough.
